7 Lessons In Love And Money, According To Our Spotify Playlists

When it comes to love songs, we’re all over them. We sing along, we dance to them, and we might even drink to them. But the truth is, love songs are all about relationships, and if there’s one thing we know, it’s how to deal with your relationship to money.

So we went through some of the top love songs in our Spotify and discovered 7 lessons in love and money, and we’re about to drop some knowledge. Buckle up, because this might be an emotional rollercoaster!

Toxic by Kehlani

“Don Julio made me a fool for you”

While alcohol might have led to some bad romantic choices for Kehlani, tipsy purchases can definitely harm your wallet—as much as they could your heart. If you’re going to the club and getting tequila shots for the table, those numbers add up fast!

While our only advice for poor romantic decisions is to get friends that will block your ex’s number for you, we have more advice on how to save $$ at the club. Obviously, what’s a good night without a little pre-game? Invite your friends over and play some drinking games with your own alcohol—at least at home, shots don’t cost $16 dollars!

This is also a great time to catch up with friends and enjoy each other’s company without the blasting music and pitch darkness of the venue. Always remember that if you’re driving, always call a ride-share, because we may be making bad romantic decisions, but we’re never playing games with our lives!

New Love by Ellie Goulding 😘

“Didn’t always like myself, didn’t always get it right” …. “I got new love, I got new love in me.”

Ellie knows that in her life, she’s made plenty of mistakes—but what matters is that she’s forgiving herself. It’s okay to make mistakes, and it’s okay to have a past! In both love and money, what matters is moving forward and learning from those mistakes.

When you’re making that next step, don’t think about your history. Release yourself from the mistakes you may have made in the past, those financial missteps that make you cringe when you think about it. In moving forward, all we need to be is thankful for our experiences and the lessons we learned, because now, we have the new knowledge, and the “new love” to make the best choices possible.

Only Wanna Give It To You by Elle Varner 👠

“I only wanna give it to you, and I want you more than a new pair of shoes”

Much like your love life, your money life is only going to start flourishing when you start putting yourself first. If you want to get in the best financial shape of your life, you’re going to have to want it bad.

Making the hard choice of putting that side hustle cash into paying off your student debt instead of those new shoes you want will get you closer to your money goals in no time! Of course, don’t forget to treat yourself along the way, but by being conscious of our daily money decisions will eventually lead to you singing “only wanna give it to my bank account!”

Love on Top by Beyonce 🥰

“Nothing’s perfect but it’s worth it. After fighting through my tears and finally, you put me first.”

This lyric proves that even Beyonce, billionaire-singer-artist-extraordinaire, has not had an easy journey to finding her perfect love. But we know that when we set a goal for ourselves, whether it be a fulfilling romantic partnership or financial peace of mind, everything we do to get there is worth it.

There will be plenty of battles to go through—after all, no one is born perfect. As we take our hard-earned lessons and achieve milestones on our path, we’re slowly but surely putting ourselves and our goals first. And that journey is everything.

Find Someone Like You by Snoh Aalegra ❤

“I’ve been waiting my whole life to find someone like you… Maybe I want this to last forever”

In life, all we really want is to feel how Snoh was feeling when she wrote these lyrics. It’s true that when you finally wake up to realize that you’re living the life you once dreamt of, it’s a feeling that you never want to let go.

The same principle applies to our financial situations! When we feel like we finally have the healthy relationship with money that we’ve been working so hard for, it’s important to cherish that feeling. It’s the perfect motivation to continue your good habits, apply the lessons you’ve learned in your journey, and remember that your money story is not over yet! Your next goal will be even bigger, even better, and more daunting, but you’ve already made it this far. Let’s work towards maintaining that strong money mindset—together.

Pen Your Money Love Song 📝

Love doesn’t have to hurt when you approach it with a healthy mindset. Know your worth, be patient, and understand that you might have to sacrifice some short-term things for the good of the long-term relationship!

Funnily enough, your relationship with money is almost exactly the same. And for your money goals, Chime is here to help you go from heart-broke-n to your happily ever after. From getting your paycheck faster with direct deposit to no monthly or late fees, ever, we’re looking forward to seeing your money mindset flourish! 💚
